*Rue du Château-d’Eau is named for Place du Château d’eau (now Place de la République) which got it’s name from the Fontaine du Château d’eau (also known as Fontaine de Bondy and Fontaine aux Lions de Nubie) designed by the engineer Pierre-Simon Girard in 1811

39, rue du Château-d’Eau, at 1.10 meters wide and 5 meters high (no indication of its depth), is purported to be the smallest house in Paris.
